This year’s PRSA Mid-Atlantic Quick Start event for chapter board members and committee chairs was more information and action packed than ever.
“The theme of the Mid-Atlantic Quick Start was ‘One PRSA’ due to the emphasis on sharing resources and ideas across chapters,” said Liz Smith APR, PRSA Central Pa. president. Experts from chapters across the districts hosted round tables on website development, public service, online awards, sponsorships, and programming. As chair-elect of the Mid-Atlantic district, Smith was charged with planning the event.
For the first time, officers from National were also in attendance. PRSA National Chair Joe Cohen APR and National President Bill Murray CAE presented tools available through PRSA national to benefit members. Cohen’s presentation “Fearless Future” emphasized the growing role of PR professionals to be adept in social media, marketing, advertising, media buying and analytics as an integral part of public relations.
Thomas Becher, chair of the Mid-Atlantic District and representative from the Blue Ridge Chapter, said that he would like to visit as many chapters as possible this year to help members and chapters in a multitude of ways.
Representatives from the National Capital Chapter, which is the largest chapter in the country, discussed the International PRSA conference in Washington, D.C. planned for October and called for district involvement. A Mid-Atlantic district social is being planned during the International conference.
