On Friday, April 24th, our Chapter orchestrated a new program called PR For A Day connecting volunteer members with nonprofits throughout the region.

More than 15 chapter members partnered with nonprofit agencies in their communities for a day to donate their experience and skills in public relations and marketing efforts.

The PR For A Day program is a first for the chapter, said Liz Smith, president of the chapter and chair of the PRSA Mid-Atlantic District. Managed by the chapter’s public service committee co-chairs Valeria Beussink and Liz Greenaway, professionals as well as students volunteered at least three hours of their time with their paired organizations, helping a multitude of nonprofits.

“Many nonprofit organizations in our area do not have the funds for professional public relations assistance on a full-time basis,” said Smith, principal of Integrated Communications Ventures based in York, Pa. “PRSA PR For A Day helped more than a dozen different nonprofits in our area with their public relations needs.”

Donated work included revising website content, providing social media assistance, copywriting and designing marketing pieces and helping to produce videos. Nonprofits included in the program range from healthcare to international community organizations.

“Successful nonprofits strengthen our communities and lead to a better quality of life for all of us in Central PA,” Smith said. “We anticipate this program will become an annual event for our chapter.”
