Salary Range: $46,748 – $71,061

Information:
Based in either the Harrisburg or Philadelphia PUC offices.

A regular work schedule will be assigned within the hours of 7:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. (E.g., 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, 8:00 – 4:30, 8:30 – 5:00, etc.)

Description of Duties:
Performs public outreach work focused on all issues under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and at the direction of the Director of Communications in the Office of Communications.

Travels statewide to staff and conduct public outreach events; staff Commissioners at media events; and provide support to other Commission staff at hearings and agency meetings.

Develops, plans and staffs informational roundtables, workshops, train-the-trainer and PUC “Be Utility Wise” and “Be Wise” events.

Works to carry out the Office of Communications strategy to inform consumers about critical utility issues and increasing the awareness of the Commission to consumers.

Works with the Director of Communications to coordinate various consumer-education campaigns.

Helps to enhance education for Pennsylvania utility consumers about the low-income customer assistance programs (CAPs), in conjunction with a Senior Communications Specialist.

Interfaces with individual consumers and organizations seeking educational brochures or answers to utility questions.

Develops educational materials to distribute to utility consumers.

Explores the enhancement of the PUC’s social media strategy by tweeting, sharing, etc., from consumer-education events, working cooperatively with the Director of Communications, Press Secretary and social media coordinator.

Proactively promotes the Commission’s educational shopping websites to consumers, utilities, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Responds to consumer inquiries, received via the Commission’s websites and referred by the Chairman’s Office.

Coordinates Commission review and approval of utility consumer-education materials, in conjunction with a Senior Communication Specialist.

Develops and implements outreach aimed at small-business customers.

Prepares and contributes to Commissioner briefing materials, employee newsletter articles and PUC press releases.

Develops contacts among utility advisory panels, small-business groups and utilities to further the Commission’s public outreach.

Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications.

Essential Functions:
Communicates effectively verbally and in writing, and speaks comfortably before large groups.

Effectively conducts presentations and meetings to a diverse audience.

Skill in writing and editing various forms of informational materials.

Knowledge of media used in communications and public relations, including social media programs and channels.

Ability to analyze and evaluate the public relations impact of Commission programs and policies.

Effectively use various public relations and communications media and methods to predict public reaction to Commission policies with reasonable accuracy, and prepare appropriate responses.

Ability to seek out new information in public relations and communications strategies and apply it to ongoing and future projects.

Handles multiple assignments with conflicting priorities or demands.

Maintains appropriate and effective working relationships.

Accesses, inputs, transmits and retrieves information from a computer or smart phone.

Operates various training and media equipment.

Lifts and transports materials up to 25 lbs.

Travels as needed.
